BAGAN SERAI: Nine men who tested positive for drug were detained in an operation conducted in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration along the south-bound of the North-South Expressway last night.
Bukit Aman chief of traffic operation for the northern zone expressway, ASP Hazir Reza Mohd Ghazali said the operation was conducted at the Gunung Semanggol and Gurun rest and recreation (R&R) areas.
He said the drug abusers comprised three lorry drivers, an express bus driver, three motorcycle riders and two car drivers.
More than 100 summonses and notices were also issued to errant motorists in the three-hour operation during which 40 lorries and 20 express buses were inspected, he told reporters after the operation at the Gunung Semanggol R&R last night.
The operation also involved the Road Transport Department, National Anti-Drug Agency, Narcotic Department, Land Public Transport commission, PLUS and Propel.--BERNAMA
