Mara can disburse loans to 11,000 UniKL students by end of month: Annuar Musa

IPOH: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) is confident that it can disburse loans to about 11,000 students at its private university by end of this month.

Its chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa said RM264 million had been allocated for the Mara-owned UniKL students who enrolled at the institution for the July/September intake last year.

"There was a delay since we have to make some adjustments to ensure that deserving students will get the financial assistance," he said when met at an engagement programme with Mara staff in Perak here today.

He was commenting on claims made by PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli that the Bumiputera development agency had failed to provide funding to students applying for enrolment at UniKL.

Rafizi was quoted as saying that the UniKL students had complained that they had yet to receive loans although Mara had promised them the financial aid upon enrolment.

At present, Annuar said there are 18,562 students at UniKL, who received sponsorships totalling RM1.4 billion.

He said eligible students who registered at UniKL for the January intake would get their financial aid by the end of next month.

At present, Annuar said Mara is funding 75,000 students at various levels in local and overseas institutions studying for their A-Levels and international baccalaureate, diploma, first degree, professional courses, masters and doctorate courses.
