Man drowns while swimming at Batu Burok beach

KUALA TERENGGANU: The body of a 41-year-old visitor who drowned while bathing near Batu Burok beach, this evening, was found an hour later.

State Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Rozizah Abnihajar said the victim, Neow Hack Wan from Taman Jaya Putra, Johor Baru, was bathing at the beach with a female friend at 6.05pm when tragedy struck.

Rozizah said Neow was swept away by a strong current and went missing.

"The Kuala Terengganu station received a distress call at 6.26pm and 10 firemen were deployed to the scene," she said.

Rozizah said the victim’s body was found by the search and rescue team an hour later.

She said the victim's body was sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for post-mortem.

According to locals, the Batu Burok beach here is known as a dangerous spot for swimming.
