MIC unperturbed by latest legal action: Subra

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said the party was unperturbed by the latest legal action against the party leadership.

Dr Subramaniam said they will be appointing lawyers to fight the legal claims made by former MIC strategic director K. Ramalingam and seven others in court.

"We did not start this, they (former MIC ousted members) started it, so we are forced to face it but in the process we will make sure our focus is on the community," he said after chairing the party's central working committee meeting (CWC), today.

Early this month Ramalingam and seven others launched a legal action over an alleged conspiracy that toppled Datuk Seri G. Palanivel from the party's presidency last year.

Ramalingam had said that the legal action seeks the removal of Dr Subramaniam from the MIC president's post.

Last year, Palanivel was also involved in a separate legal tussle with the RoS over its directive for MIC to hold re-elections, which was dismissed by the High Court.

Dr Subramaniam won the MIC president's post uncontested last year during the re-elections.
