STPM: Fewer students with 4.0 CGPA last year

PUTRAJAYA: The percentage of candidates who scored a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) in Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) 2015 dipped slightly from the previous year.

Malaysian Examination Council chairman Professor Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said the 2015 examination saw a 0.11 per cent decline as 335 candidates obtained a 4.0 CGPA, compared to 390 candidates in the previous year.

“(However), even though the four flat percentage has declined, the national CGPA increased from 2.62 to 2.65,” he said.

Mustafa added that 41,987 candidates sat for the 2015 STPM exam with 6,602 in the science stream and the rest in the arts stream.

He noted the improvement made by the candidates in the rural area with CGPA 2.61 scored last year, compared to 2.54 in 2014 and 2.49 in 2013.

“If this achievement trend continues, the gap between those in the urban and rural areas can be reduced,” he said.

Mustafa said the 28,678 female candidates scored better (CGPA 2.69) than their 13,309 male counterparts (CGPA 2.56).
