Senior cop charged with murder of 17-year old student [NSTTV]

IPOH: A senior police officer with the rank of deputy superintendent was charged in the magistrate's court here today for the murder of a 17-year-old student.

However, no plea was recorded from Mohd Nazri Abdul Razak, 44 after the charge was read out before Magistrate S. Punitha as the case comes under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

Mohd Nazri is charged with murdering Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie in Jalan Taman Jati 1 near SMK Jati, Meru between 12.05pm and 12.40pm on Dec 15.

He was appeared calm when the charge was read to him. None of his family members were seen at the courtroom gallery.

He is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which is punishable with death or imprisonment for between 30 and 40 years with not less than 12 strokes, if found guilty.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor, Azlina Rasdi; Khairul Azreem Mamat, Wan Azimah Yaacob, Afzainizam Abdul Aziz, Saiful Akmal Mod Said, Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani, J. Geetha and Low Qin Hui, while the accused was represented by lawyer Jacky Loi Yap Loong.

The court set Feb 7 next year for mention pending chemical reports.

Meanwhile, the victim's brother Zarul Fitri, 29 was seen wiping his tears when the charge was read out to the accused.

On Friday, in the 12.30pm incident, Muhammad Zaharif was on his way home at Taman Chepor Sentosa from his school, SMK Jati in Meru, here.

It is understood that before the incident, there was an altercation involving the car driver and the victim who was revving up his motorcycle engine.

The car driver chased the victim for almost a kilometre before hitting him from behind. Due to the impact, the victim fell and was dragged almost five metres.

The victim, who was still fully dressed in school sports uniform, was confirmed dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination conducted on the student at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here found that the cause of his death was chest and abdomen injuries due to a road traffic crash.

Following this, on the same day, police arrested the senior police officer who allegedly rammed into the victim with his car, resulting in his death.
