Four charged with kidnapping of S'porean brothers [VIDEO]

GEORGE TOWN: Four men were charged at a magistrate’s court here today with kidnapping two Singaporean businessmen last week.

Chee Kok Fang, E. Boon Roy, Koay Kean Teang and Loke Kah Wai, pleaded not guilty to kidnapping brothers Gabriel Ng Chia How and Kenneth Ng Chee How.

The four were accused of confining the brothers at several locations here from Feb 22 at 4pm until Feb 24 at 2.45pm.

It was reported that the brothers had set off for Malaysia on Feb 21 for a business trip but found themselves kidnapped and held for RM350,000 ransom.

The brothers were rescued during a police operation on Feb 24 and the four men were subsequently arrested.

The four were charged with wrongful restraint. Under section 341 of the Penal Code, anyone found guilty of wrongful restraint is liable to a month’s jail, a maximum fine of RM1,000, or both.

Magistrate L. Umma Devi set bail at RM6,000 with one surety each and fixed April 13 for submission of documents.

Deputy public prosecutor Noor Azura Zulkiflee prosecuted, while R. Puran represented all the accused.
