STPM top scorer dreams of becoming a customs officer

PUTRAJAYA: STPM top scorer Loke Chia Chien gave 100 per cent in class and refused to allow any distractions to detract him from chasing his dream of becoming a customs officer.

The orang asli student of SMK Rompin, who hails from a remote village in Pahang had always been fascinated by the uniform and the tasks shouldered by those in the customs department.

The intense debate on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) also piqued his interest to learn more about the department.

"I hope that I can serve the government and contribute to the county by becoming one of their officers," said the eldest of three siblings.

Loke who scored a perfect 4.0 CGPA said the secret to his success was his absolute concentration in class. He also does not like wasting his time on social media.

He was one of 19 candidates awarded for their excellent achievements in the 2015 STPM and in the Malaysia University English Test (Muet).

Ten schools were also recognised for their excellent results in last year's STPM.

All recipients received their awards from Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid .

Mahdzir told reporters he was satisfied with last year's STPM result and hoped more students would enrol in Form 6.

"Those who did well in their STPM will do well too in the universities," he said.
