Man dies, two injured along North-South Expressway stretch

IPOH: One man died while two others were injured in separate accidents involving a trailer and a lorry near the North-South Expressway this morning.

At about 1am, a trailer crashed and burst into flames at KM 265.4 of the expressway.

The driver and his attendant were injured in the incident.

The flames from the trailer also sparked a 0.8 hectares forest fire near the highway.

At the same time, a lorry ferrying fruits skidded and hit a billboard along the highway at Kilometre 265, a spot adjacent to the first incident.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said, in the second incident, lorry driver, who Ahmad Tarmizi Yusof, 39, was thrown out of his vehicle by the impact.

“The lorry driver died at the scene.

“Meanwhile, two men who were injured in the first incident were sent to the hospital by ambulance,” he said.

He also said firemen from the Meru Raya and Kuala Kangsar Fire and Rescue Department were mobilised to the scene after receiving a distress call at 1.16am.

He also said the burning trailer and the forest blaze were successfully brought under control at 5.18am this morning.
