Mechanic killed in three-vehicle crash on North-South Expressway

HULU SELANGOR: A mechanic repairing a faulty truck was killed in a three-vehicle collision on the North-South Expressway near the Sungai Buaya toll exit, today.

The incident occurred at 3.45pm at KM434.8 of the southbound lane. The victim, a 60-year-old mechanic, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Earlier, the truck, travelling from Bukit Beruntung to Kuala Lumpur, experienced a malfunction with its rear long shaft.

Hulu Selangor police chief Superintendent Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said the crash involved a two-tonne truck, a four-wheel-drive Mitsubishi Storm, and a Roll-On-Roll-Off (Roro) truck.

"Initial investigations found that the victim, who was a passenger in the Mitsubishi Storm, was repairing the faulty Roro truck at the scene," he said in a statement.

"Suddenly, a two-tonne truck driven by a 39-year-old man with two passengers lost control and rear-ended the four-wheel-drive vehicle parked behind the malfunctioning truck."

"At the same time, the victim who was in front of his vehicle was hit and suffered severe head injuries," he added.

"The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the two-tonne truck driver sustained head and body injuries, while his two passengers suffered minor injuries."

"The truck driver was taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital for further treatment," he said.

He added that the post-mortem examination on the victim's body would be conducted at Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving." he said.
