Malaysians, here's how much food we all waste every day

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians throw out about 3,000 metric tonnes of edible leftover food daily.

Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) director-general Datuk Dr Sharif Haron said the amount of disposed edible food leftovers could feed half-a-million people and give them three decent meals daily.

"Daily, about 15,000 metric tonnes of food waste are generated daily in Malaysia.

Out of this, 3,000 metric tonnes are untouched and is edible leftover food," he said.
