Robber shot in the buttock in botched Setapak robbery

KUALA LUMPUR: A parang-wielding robber was shot on his right buttock by a security guard while trying to rob a convenience store in Setapak earlier today.

The robber and an accomplice had at 11.20am tried to flee with their stash of mobile phone prepaid cards worth thousands of ringgit, after holding up the store.

However, a security guard, attached to a money changer outlet next door, saw the commotion and opened fire on the robbers.

One of the robbers was shot in the buttocks while the other robber managed to flee.

Their four other accomplices, who were waiting on motorcycles outside, hastily made their escape after seeing the commotion.

The owner of the money changer outlet, who wished to remain anonymous, said the victim was handed over to the police before being rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police are in the midst of scouring the area for evidence.
