Perak aims for 1.5 mil tourists this year

IPOH: The state government here is targeting 1.5 million tourists to visit the state this year, said state tourism committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed.

She said it could be achieved with various new attractions introduced this year.

"We have seen about a 10 per cent increase in the number of tourists to the state last year.

"We hope we can maintain the momentum as we will open the second theme park in the state namely the Movie Animation Park Studios (Maps) in Meru here," she said after opening the Perak Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Fair 2016 here today.

She said theme parks were important attractions that could lure more visitors to Perak.

Apart from Maps, Perak also has the Lost World of Tambun Theme Park here and Bukit Merah Laketown Resort in Taiping.

At the function, Nolee also launched the state government's latest agro-tourism package involving eight attractions.

The agro-tourism products are Sahom Farm Valley in Kampar, Gaharu Tea Valley (Gopeng), Institut Agro Ushahawan or iGROW (Kampung Gajah), Refarm (Kampar), Trong Leisure Farm (Taiping), Pink Guava Sime Darby (Sitiawan), Syamille Agro Farm (Kuala Kangsar) and Sahabat Hutan Bakau Lekir (Sitiawan).

The three-day Perak Matta Fair 2016 is being held at Ipoh Parade shopping complex from 10am to 10pm until Sunday.
