GEORGE TOWN: Two people were rescued by firemen in an early morning blaze at a flat here today.
The fire broke out in a unit located at level one in Block C, Flat Desa Bayan in Jalan Merbah at Bayan Lepas.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the duo were inside the premises and could not leave as the fire had blocked all exits in the 3.25am incident.
"Our unit arrived at the scene to bring the flames under control in 15 minutes. The two were taken to safety shortly afterwards," he said.
Residents nearby the unit also evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Two fire trucks and 11 firemen from the Bayan Baru and Seri Balik Pulau stations were roped in to douse the flames.
