National Tahfiz Education Policy to be introduced

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will introduce the National Tahfiz Education Policy, aimed at expanding Islamic learning and understanding, while eradicating the influence of extremist notions of the religion.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the policy would enable tahfiz education centres throughout the country to be given sufficient space to expand.

"I also want the proposals towards the formation of this policy to be drawn up with input from all the tahfiz madrasahs throughout the country," said Najib.

"This is to ensure that this isn't just a government policy, but one that is born from the needs and requirements of these madrasahs."

He was speaking after launching the National Organisation of Al Quran Tahfiz Associations (PINTAR) at the Federal Territory Mosque here. Also present was Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.

"This is not just to ensure that the country is an Islamic nation that embraces the holyness of Islam.

“We also want to eradicate all notions of extremism which present themselves as Islam but are not part of this religion," said Najib.

Najib also announced a government grant of RM10,000 to each state affiliate of PINTAR, while Yayasan 1MDB will sponsor 10 representatives of PINTAR to perform the Haj this year.
