I knew value of bungalow: Guan Eng

BATU PAHAT: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said he knew the market value of his bungalow, which he had allegedly bought at below market value.

He denied a recent news report in which it was claimed that he was not aware of the bungalow's market value.

Lim, who is DAP secretary-general said that he did in fact know the actual market value of his bungalow on Jalan Pinhorn in George Town, Penang, and claimed that his words were distorted by the media when he was interviewed by them when he opened his bungalow to pressmen.

"I know the valuation of my house for stamp duty was RM4.2 million. What I did not know was how Umno leaders came up with a RM6.5 million figure (for the bungalow) because I am a chief minister, not a property agent.

"I was referring to the RM6.5 million figure (as claimed by Umno leaders), not the fact that I had no clue about the bungalow's market value," said Lim after attending a dialogue with Johor DAP members here today.

On Friday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police had opened investigation papers on the woman who allegedly sold her bungalow at below market value to Lim, following several reports lodged against the woman.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is also investigating the case for abuse of power and corruption.

The issue surrounding Lim's purchase of the bungalow in Jalan Pinhorn, Penang, for RM2.8 million has been in the spotlight after it was alleged that the property was worth almost twice the amount.
