BESUT, Terengganu: The Engineering Department of Universiti Malaya (UM) has found a new approach using the green technology, which uses waste material and natural resources, to build houses.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the ministry would look into it and, if feasible, would propose the use of the technology in the building of housing projects for the hardcore poor nationwide.
“This will be part of the ministry’s effort to get the participation of public institutions of higher learning (IPTA) in community development programmes,” he added.
He told this to reporters at the handing over of a community house key to Zunaidah Harun, 49, in Kampung Alur Jejawi , Kuala Besut here.
The house was built using the Industrial Building System (IBS) by lecturers and students of the Melaka and Kota Baharu polytechnics. -- Bernama
