RM168mil approved to enhance Johor roads and infrastructure with green technology

JOHOR BARU: The Public Works Department has approved an allocation of RM168 million to improve Johor's roads and infrastructure.

Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the approved allocation would go towards three projects in Johor, which are in dire need for upgrading and repair works.

This includes the Jalan Johor Baru - Mersing (FT003), which has received RM120 million in funding to repair roads classified as accident hotspots and flood prone areas.

A sum of RM39 million of the approved allocation will be used to repair roads damaged during the recent northeast monsoon flood, while another RM9 million will be for repair to damaged roads in Felda Ulu Tebrau.

Onn Hafiz said in addition to road upgrades and repairs, supporting infrastructure such as the transition to green technology through the use of LED street lights and smart traffic lights would be improved.

"Our main priority is the safety of road users… thus the roads need to be upgraded to minimise accidents," he said.

Earlier today, Onn Hafiz led a state government delegation to Putrajaya, where a meeting was held with Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Onn Hafiz said the meeting further solidified the strong cooperation between the state and federal governments.

He added among other issues highlighted were further allocation requests to upgrade more roads in the state in anticipation for the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone's implementation, as well as Visit Johor Year 2026.

Also present during the meeting were Deputy Minister Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, Johor Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communication Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh and Malaysian Highway Authority chief executive officer Datuk Sazali Harun.
