AirAsia not privatising

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia Bhd founders and majority shareholder Tune Air Sdn Bhd, dismissed rumours that the budget carrier was going private.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia today, the airline brushed off the privatisation rumours based on an article published by a local media last weekend which stated that Tune Air and China Everbright might take AirAsia off the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia."

On behalf of the company, the Board of Directors wishes to inform that after making due enquiries with all the company's directors, they are not aware of the reason for the article.

The founders and Tune Air also indicated that they are not considering a privatisation at this state," AirAsia said.

Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Datuk Kamarudin Meranun bought over AirAsia from DRB Hicom in 2001.

The budget airline's majority shareholder, Tune Air holds 18.87 per cent stake in the company while Fernandes and Meranun both directly holds 0.06 per cent and 0.07 per cent stake, respectively.
