Foreign intervention: Tun Mahathir has gone against his own principles, says Zahid

HUTAN MELINTANG: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's call for foreign intervention to help topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is contrary to the former's own principle.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said, when Dr Mahathir was in power, the latter had always reminded government officers and party leaders not to cooperate with foreign powers to tarnish the image or damage the country.

"He used to scold us if we cooperate with foreigners while some of us have also even been accused as being foreign agents.

"I hope he would not change his stance by asking others to go against what he used to stand for before," said Zahid after closing the Kembara Kebajikan 1Malaysia programme here today.

It was reported that Dr Mahathir recently said that foreign pressure was needed to force Najib to step down since the avenues for redress locally had allegedly been closed completely.

Zahid also advised Dr Mahathir not to do things that could make the people lose respect for him as former prime minister.
