Zahari Kechik made the decision on his own, says brother

KOTA BARU: "Even though we are brothers but we never interfere in each other's affairs. The announcement he made was his own decision."

This was Datuk Mohd Adhan Kechik's said when talking about his younger brother Zahari Kechik's decision to declare his support for the prime minister and unity government.

Adhan, who is Barisan Nasional's former Bukit Bunga assemblyman said he only knew about Zahari's decision after reading the latter's press statement.

"We are from different parties. I'm from BN and he is from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), so I believe there is no need for him to inform me about his decision.

"I'm not sure whether he had discussed the matter with other family members because I had been outstation.

"But as a brother, I support his decision and hopefully, he can continue giving the best service to the people in his constituency" Adhan, 67, told the New Straits Times.

Yesterday, Zahari, who is the Jeli member of parliament from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia became the fourth Bersatu federal lawmaker to declare support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Adhan is the third of eight siblings, while Zahari is the fourth.

He said he always wishes for the best for his brother.

"I will always pray for him that he won't be an opposition that is always at a loss. I will wait for his call," said Adhan.

Yesterday, Zahari became the fourth MP who declared support for Anwar's administration.

He announced the decision less than 24 hours after Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim declared his support for the Madani government.

Azizi, when pledging his support to Anwar, declared that he would continue to be a member of Bersatu and was willing to face the repercussions of his actions.

Zahari, on the other hand, had said the decision to back Anwar was made without any coercion, influence or pressure from any party. He had also eiterated had willingly pledged his allegiance to the government for the sake of his constituents.
