Obese man transported to hospital by lorry

KUALA TERENGGANU: A 250-kg man from Kampung Tanjung Gelam here had to be transported by lorry to a hospital after suffering from a tummy ache and breathing difficulties today.

It took six personnel from the Civil Defence Department just to cart 28-year-old Mohamad Faisal Md Ali from his house to the lorry specially meant to deliver him to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here.

His parents had dialled 999 for assistance at about 1pm.

Knowing that a normal ambulance is too small to fit their son, they had specially requested a lorry to be sent to pick him up.

Civil Defense Department officer Lt Muda (PA) Ahmad Kamal Hakim Ngah said it took his men 30 minutes to carry the man to the lorry with the help of blankets and a mattress.

"The stretcher was too small for the man. About ten villagers assisted us to carry the man into the lorry.

"The whole process was quite smooth, although the task was heavy," he said.

The man is staying with his parents and siblings.

This is the department's second attempt to cart an obese man to hospital.

Last year, it transported a 200-kg man to the same hospital using an ambulance.
