IPOH: A man who was trampled by an elephant at the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway (JRTB) memorial monument near Gerik last Thursday is still being treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here.

The incident involving the victim, Ahmad Nazri Osman, 55, also caught the attention of Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

Saarani took the time to visit the victim, who is from Felda Bersia, Gerik, and his family at HRPB yesterday.

"I was shocked to hear about the man severely injured from being trampled by an elephant. This afternoon I immediately went to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh to see the actual condition of the victim.

"I understand that Ahmad Nazri Osman, who is from Felda Bersia, suffered broken ribs, a broken left leg, and head bleeding. I managed to give words of encouragement to the family members facing challenges amidst celebrating Eid," he said through a post on Facebook yesterday.

Saarani also asked the public to pray for the victim's speedy recovery and health following the incident.

Yesterday, a man was reported severely injured after being trampled by an elephant at Batu 11 on the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway.

The 55-year-old victim had stopped at the location due to a stomach ache before his encounter with the mammal.
