Drug addict suicide threat to avoid arrest by Nada fails

TAMPIN: A drug addict had threatened suicide to avoid arrest by the state National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada) during Ops Gegar on Wednesday.

The man, who is in his 30s, was hiding under his bed soon after he realised the presence of the enforcement officers inside his house in Felda Jelai, Gemas at about 3.30am yesterday.

Enforcement officers had persuaded him to surrender, with the assistance from his family members.

State Nada enforcement chief Mohamad Salleh Abdul Ghani said his men took 45 minutes to persuade him.

“The situation was intense between the victim and my men, as he was holding a knife and attempted to stab himself if the officers get any closer.

“The victim’s parents, brother and sister-in-law who were also at the house had tried to talk to him.

“When he finally calmed down and dropped the knife, we immediately apprehended him. He was tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said at a press conference at Tampin Nada office, here, today.

The operation which was jointly held by Nada and police, rounded up 62 addicts aged between 21 and 62 for screening test.

“Screening tests found 42 positive for methamphetamine and morphine.

“They were arrested under Section 6 and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.”
