MPI gets RM657k boost for MPI-Petronas Malaysian Journalism Awards

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) has received contributions totaling RM657,000 for the Malaysian Press Night 2016, which will be held on May 20 at The Majestic Hotel here.

MPI chief executive officer Datuk Dr Chamil Wariya today accepted contributions from various corporate bodies and government agencies.

Petronas is the biggest sponsor with its contribution of RM300,000 cash.

The MPI-Petronas Malaysian Journalism Awards ceremony will also be held during the Malaysian Press Night, where this year the main winners of each category will not only win cash prizes but a trophy worth RM1,000.

"Money can be spent in a blink of an eye but a trophy could last a lifetime," Dr Chamil said.

There are also five new categories, namely best front page layout, best infographic, best editorial cartooning, best news report for a portal and best radio reporting.

"This is to recognise journalism elements not featured in the MPI-Petronas Malaysian Journalism Awards before," Chamil added.
