(MotoGP) Khairul Idham and Msian riders find the going tough in Spanish GP

KUALA LUMPUR: Rookie duo Khairul Idham Pawi and Adam Norrodin, as well as the more experienced Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah all found it hard to make an impact in qualifying at the Spanish Motorcycle Grand Prix today.

Khairul (Honda Team Asia) settled for 24th in Moto3 qualifying with a best lap of one minute 47.740 seconds after earlier notching 1:48.215s in the third practice session (FP3) at the Jerez Circuit, also for 24th.

Adam (Drive M7 SIC Racing Team), who struggled from the first practice session due to a fractured ankle, fared no better as his 1:48.025s was only good enough for 28th on the grid. It was disappointing for him as he managed 1:47.756s for 15th in FP3.

SIC Racing teammate Jakub Kornfeil (Czech Republic) will start from 10th after notching 1:47.131s.

Adam sustained the injury when he crashed at the Argentina round early this month. The fracture was not visible when tested in Argentina as well as America and was only confirmed once he reached Spain.

He was overtaking for second on the final corner when he crashed in Argentina. He, however, pushed the bike across the line for 11th.

Khairul won the race which saw him enter the history books as the first Malaysian to win a round in the World Championships.

In Moto2, Hafizh (Petronas Raceline) also failed to shine as his 1:43.897s placed him 24th on the grid. Hafizh had managed a faster 1:43.861s for 22nd in FP3.
