Actress, ex-Miss Malaysia Samantha Schubert dies of cancer

KUALA LUMPUR: Actress, producer and former Miss Malaysia / World 1991 Samantha Schubert died of cancer at 7.15pm on Monday.

It is learnt that Schubert, in her 40s, had been ill for a few months and was treated at the Prince Court Medical Centre in Jalan Tun Razak here.

A longtime friend, producer Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina expressed shock and sadness over Schubert's death.

"She's been a dear friend whom

I have known since the 1990s when she performed in my Kit Kat Klub shows. She was a fantastic dancer and a kind, loving person," Tiara told the New Straits Times tonight.

She said Schubert had remained strong and positive throughout her illness.

Schubert modelled for advertisements and starred in films such as Amok, Red Scorpion 2, Inside Out and The Red Kebaya which was directed by her husband Oliver Knott.

Her best known plays included The Odd Couple with Bernie Chan and Elaine Daly in 2006 and The Tempest with Mano Maniam in 2007.
