Contractors of luxury apartments slapped with stop work order by Johor CIDB [VIDEO]

ISKANDAR PUTERI: A stop work order was issued to the contractors of a 30-storey luxury apartment project here following a surprise check by the Johor Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) today.

Johor CIDB director Othman Safar said the agency found that the project contractors had failed to register themselves with the CIDB before starting work at the project site.

"Further checks revealed that 88 out of the 90 workers inspected did not own a Construction Worker Registration Card, which is a requirement by CIDB as it acknowledged that the hired construction workers are authorised to work in a construction area," he said.

Othman said the stop work order issued to the contractors to enable them to register with the CIDB before work at the project site is allowed to resume.

During the operation, which was carried out together with the Immigration Department, 58 foreign workers who failed to produce any valid travel documents were also detained.
