KUCHING: Barisan Nasional candidate for Batu Kawah Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian has decided to cancel his talk at the Batu Kawah old bazaar tonight, over concerns for the safety of his supporters.
Sim said he learnt that independent candidate Liu Thian Leong is also organising a talk, just 50 feet away.
"How could the two venues to be so close? I do not want to have any of the supporters turn aggressive and emotional during the talk and cause some untoward incidents," he said.
"I have lodged a police report and I hope they will investigate if the other side (Liu) obtained a permit to organiser their ceramah," he told reporters at a press conference held at SUPP Batu Kawa branch here.
Sim said two of his campaign billboards located at Jalan Stephen Yong had also been damaged last night.
He said the billboards were positioned next to billboards set up by DAP and Liu’s. However, only his billboard had been damaged.
