Lekas Highway to close on April 30 for night-cycling race

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kajang-Seremban Highway (Lekas) will be temporarily closed to the public starting 5pm on April 30 to 3am the following morning.

The closure is to make way for the RHB Shimano Highway Ride @ Lekas 2016 night cycling competition.

In a statement today, Lebuhraya Kajang Seremban Sdn Bhd said Lekas will be the first highway in Malaysia to close its access temporarily to make way for a night cycling tournament.

Its chief operating officer, Wan Salwani Wan Yusoff said Lekas has already obtained approval from the Works Ministry and Malaysia Highway Authority (MHA) to be the venue sponsor.

She said the Federal police’s Traffic Division has also issued its approval for the traffic management plan on total road closure for the event.

“Projected traffic that will be involved during this road closure is around 50,000,” she said.

Wan Salwani said approximately 19 junctions would be closed for the event to ensure a smooth and safe ride for the participants.

The road closure will start from the Kajang Selatan interchange up to the Paroi junction.

“We would like to convey our deepest gratitude to the police for their cooperation and support by providing officers from Kajang, Mantin, Nilai and Seremban to assist in the road closure,” she said.

Alternative routes have been identified during the closure to facilitate the mobility of the road users on the event day.

Once the road closure takes place, southbound road users such as Seremban, Senawang and Kuala Pilah are advised to use Federal Route 1 or the PLUS Highway to continue their journey.

Road users have also been advised to abide all traffic safety regulations provided during the closure.
