Johan to take over as TH chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Johan Abdullah will take over as Tabung Haji group managing director and chief executive officer (CEO), replacing Tan Sri Ismee Ismail.

The pilgrims fund said Johan’s appointment would start on July 1.

Johan joined Tabung Haji on January 15 last year as deputy group managing director and CEO. He was formerly the group managing director and CEO of BIMB Holdings Bhd.

He has vast experience in corporate finance, capital markets and Islamic finance.

He holds a Master’s in business administration from Morehead State University and a degree in business administration from Eastern Michigan University in the United States.

“I am honoured and humbled to have been appointed to assume the duties of Tan Sri Ismee,” said Johan in a statement.

“With guidance from the board and working with the current team, we shall continue to bring Tabung Haji to greater heights.”

He paid tribute to Ismee, saying that during his 10-year tenure, Ismee had achieved a number of successes to earn Tabung Haji recognition and respect worldwide.

“Tabung Haji had a successful transformation that resulted in
increased profitability. It is, therefore, a privilege to continue to
lead an organisation that delivers high-quality services and is globally renowned, particularly in the
areas of haj management, deposits and investments.

“We are an organisation led by a purpose to make a positive, meaningful impact,” he added.

Meanwhile, Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said the handing-over was in line with its succession plan, which was put in place in January last year.

“Ismee’s extraordinary vision and leadership has contributed significantly to Tabung Haji’s successes. It has undergone a successful transformation that has resulted in increased profitability,” he said.

Under Ismee’s stewardship, Tabung Haji has diversified its investment portfolio and income stream.

The fund’s revenue soared more than RM4 billion for the first time while its profit (after zakat and taxes) surpassed RM3 billion for the year ended December 2015.

From early 2006 to last year, Tabung Haji’s accumulative profit surpassed RM18 billion.

During the same period, subsidies for total haj operations amounted to RM815 million.

It also succeeded in ensuring that muasassah pilgrims payment remained at RM9,980 since 2009.

Tabung Haji’s successes are also reflected in its investments in real estate and properties overseas, especially in Mecca, the United Kingdom and Australia.
