Court sets 13 days for Rafizi's OSA trial

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court has fixed 13 days for the trial of Pandan Member of Parliament Mohd Rafizi Ramli, who has been charged for two offences under Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act (OSA) 1972.

Judge Zulqarnian Hassan set May 31, June 17, June 29 and June 30, July 25 to July 27, August 8 till August 10 and September 5 to September 7 for the trial.

Rafizi, 39, had claimed trial to the first charge of unlawful possession of a classified document, the 1Malaysia Development Bhd Audit Report, at the Parliament lobby, Jalan Parlimen in Kuala Lumpur about 3pm on March 24.

He also claimed trial to a second charge of disclosing contents of that document, to the media at a press conference at the Parliament lobby at about 3pm on March 28.

Later at the magistrate's court, magistrate Mohd Rehand Mohd Aris fixed May 31 for mention and document submission, for Rafizi's third charge of criminal defamation, where he was alleged to have smeared the name of Tabung Haji in his website www.rafiziramli.com.

He was alleged to have committed the offence at the 18th Floor, Tabung Haji Building in Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur, at 9am on Feb 18.

Rafizi has been released.on RM4,000 bail in two sureties, for all the three offences, by both the courts.

Deputy public prosecutor Zhafran Rahim Hamzah prosecuted while Rafizi was represented by Saiful Rosli Izham, Faizal Rahman, Nik Zarith Moustpha and Adi Zulkarnian Zulkifli.
