Take positive steps to protect the environment - Tengku Abdullah

KUANTAN: The government should take in their stride the increasing number of criticisms and views on environmental issues and take positive steps towards protecting the environment, said Pahang Tengku Mahkota Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

“I have come across many media reports criticising the government’s approach in handling environmental matters.

“I hope the government will take these views into consideration because failure to protect and conserve the environment will have far-reaching implications,” said Tengku Abdullah when met after performing the congregational Istisqa prayers at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Mosque, Indera Mahkota here today.

The prayers to invoke Allah for rain led by Kuantan district kadhi Abdul Zaki Mad Zain was joined by Pahang Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Rahman Osman, Pahang Islamic Department (JAIP) mosque and surau division director, Datuk Badlishah Alauddin and district police chief ACP Abdul Aziz Salleh.

Commenting on the hot weather sweeping across the country, Tengku Abdullah said the government should consider making necessary arrangements including water rationing as the duration of the hot weather was still unknown.

Describing the situation as alarming and almost critical, he called on all Pahang mosques to organise the Istisqa supplementary prayers.

“I hope the rakyat will face this test of hot weather with patience and gratitude, always be thrifty when using water and at the same time take care of their health by drinking plenty of water,” he said.

“I also urge individuals and the private sector to extend their assistance to those who are in need of water especially those in the rural areas,” he added. -- BERNAMA
