SUPP's relationship with China can bring rapid development to Batu Kawa: Dr Sim

BATU KAWA: With its existing relationship with China, the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) will bring development to Batu Kawa that is ‘beyond the people’s imagination’.

Party chief senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said this would be possible if Barisan Nasional wins the Batu Kawah seat.

"The China government has donated RM60,000 to the Chinese school here as a symbolic first step and there could be more to come.

"Because of the special relationship I have with China, I am confident that we can get support from China to develop,” he said.

He was speaking to members of the Iban community during a luncheon event near here.

Dr Sim has a special relationship with China.

In 1974, Tun Abdul Razak and Dr Sim's late father Tan Sri Sim Kheng Hong helped establish the foundations of Malaysia-China bilateral relationship.

After being appointed as a member of the House of Senate two years ago, Dr Sim and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak flew to Beijing to attend the 40th anniversary of the forging of the relationship, Dr Sim said.

Plans are already afoot to build a water theme park in the area.

"BN must win big if the people want to see transformation. There are many business opportunities here.

"It can help to bring in more tourists and create job opportunities," Dr Sim said, adding that the DAP incumbent had not done anything to develop Batu Kawah.

Dr Sim will face a three-cornered fight with DAP Christina Chew and independent candidate Liu Thian Leong for the Batu Kawah seat.
