Eleven couples tie the knot together on May 1

KUALA SELANGOR: May 1 will no longer be known only as Worker's Day for 11 couples who decided to tie the knot today.

The couples celebrated their wedding at the Majlis Mahligai Mega event at 1Plaza Kuala Selangor today.

The joyous occasion, steeped in Malay tradition, also celebrated seven couples who had converted to Islam, said Kuala Selangor Islamic Religious administration officer Abd Rahim Salleh.

"Their event was celebrated in a simple, happy and moderate manner. This wedding ceremony for eleven couples are also beneficial to the couples because it is cost efficient for them as it was carried out at the same time.

"This is in line with teachings of Islam to be thrifty and moderate.

"We also want couples who have converted to Islam to remain close with their families, especially their parents and siblings, so that the relationship can grow stronger despite the differences in religion," he said.

Also present at the ceremony was Orang Besar Daerah Kuala Selangor Datuk Mohd Yaacob Ismail.
