Sarawak Election: 62 percent pre-poll turnout as of 2pm

KUCHING: A total of 62 percent of the 24,604 early voters comprising military and police personnel, including their spouses have turned up at polling centres to cast their votes as of 2pm.

At 2pm, the Election Commission (EC) also announced the closure of 33 polling centres in the state.

Another 46 centres remain open for early electors until 5pm.

The ballot papers for the early polls will be collected and kept in police lockups. Counting of votes will only begin at 4pm, on May 7.

Earlier, EC chairman Datuk Seri Hashim Abdullah said he expected more than 70 percent voter turnout in today’s pre-polls.
