Queen takes maiden ride on ETS

KUALA LUMPUR: It was indeed a special day today for Muhammad Rodi Mustapha, captain of the electric train service that left this capital city at 10am.

On board the ETS, he had a special passenger - Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Hajah Haminah.

“I consider myself fortunate to have been chosen to drive a train in which Tuanku is travelling,” said the 39-year-old Muhammad Rodi who has more than 17 years of experience driving trains.

Tuanku Hajah Haminah was taking her maiden ride on the ETS, travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Bagan Serai in Perak where the train is scheduled to arrive at 1.30pm.

Accompanying the queen on the ride was Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad chairman Datuk Ir Nawawi Ahmad.

KTMB corporation communications executive Nor Mas Tita Shoffri said Tuanku Hajah Haminah would enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.

The ETS is an inter-city rail service that was launched in August 2010 following the completion of the electrification and double-tracking of the tracks from Rawang to Ipoh.

The service has been extended progressively, and now runs between Gemas in Negeri Sembilan and Padang Besar in Perlis.--BERNAMA
