Policemen deny 'ketum' corruption charges

BUTTERWORTH: Two policemen pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to two separate corruption charges.

Corporal Badrul Hisham Hashim @ Isahak, 47, and Lance Corporal Raja Mohd Shah Heri Raja Salleh, 33, denied committing their offences, respectively.

The duo were charged with accepting a bribe of RM1,500 as an inducement for not acting against a man who had ketum water in his possession.

Badrul Hisham, who is attached to the General Operations Force based in Kulim, was alleged to have received the money at Taman Pelangi, Juru, Bukit Mertajam on Dec 10 2014.

Mohd Raja Shah Heri, who is based in the Seberang Prai Tengah district police headquarters, was accused of abetting with Badrul Hisham to obtain RM1,500 from the same man at the same place.

Badrul Hisham faced a charge under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009 read together with Section 24 of the same act.

Mohd Raja Shah meanwhile faced a charge under Section 28(1)(c) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009 read together with Sections 17(a) and 24 of the same act,

Both policemen were unrepresented. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission prosecuting officer Amin Yaacob appeared for the prosecuted.

Sessions Judge Norashima Khalid fixed mention for June 8.
