More than 10,000 police personnel to ensure smooth polling day

KUCHING: More than 10,000 police personnel will be deployed throughout Sarawak to ensure that polling day runs smoothly, tomorrow.

State police commissioner Datuk Seri Muhammad Sabtu Osman said police have sufficient manpower, adding that 4,327 police personnel have been brought in from the peninsula.

"We will also be placing our personnel in civilian clothes to monitor election betting and rumours of bookies taking bets on the ground," he said in a press conference at the state police headquarters, here.

Thus far, he said 130 police reports were lodged in relation to the 11th state election and 75 investigation papers have been opened.

He also warned any groups against conducting demonstrations during the counting of ballots and announcement of results.
