#Showbiz: Wings' Rock Emperor concert attracts more than 10,000 fans

SHAH ALAM: Once again, rock legend Datuk Awie and his band Wings have proven to be major crowd-pullers who deliver non-stop entertainment.

Wings, comprising lead vocalist Awie, drummer Black, bassist Eddie and guitarists Edrie Hashim and Syam wowed more than 10,000 rock enthusiasts in their non-stop, two-hour concert to end 2023 with a bang.

Their concert, Konsert Wings The Rock Emperor - Kuala Lumpur Chapter took place at 9pm in Stadium Melawati here.

With Rahmah ticket prices as low as RM95, Malaysians from all walks of life gathered at the indoor stadium as early as 6pm to await Wings' final mega-showcase of the year.

Many of them carried placards with photos as well as caricatures of Wings' members, and the messages written on them included "We will rock you" and "Rock kapak forever".

In the concert organised by Rumah Produksi Merah and Awie Entertainment, Wings performed 30 songs, including medleys.

These included songs from their best-selling albums Menakluk Kosmos and Naga Keramat, such as Adoney Dari Paran, Ingatkan Dia, Jumpa Hilang and Komplikasi Pramaya, and radio staples such as Gemuruh, Misteri Mimpi Syakilla, Taman Rashidah Utama and Nurnilam Sari.

Awie said that the Rahmah prices were specially for Malaysians of all ages to enjoy the "people's concert".

"We also offered 10 per cent discounts for concert-goers aged seven and above, people with OKU cards and students who purchase the Rockzone seats," he said.

"These prices target parents who planned to attend with their pre-teen children."

Awie said that the band members had been rehearsing hard for the last two weeks in order to give an extraordinary concert with songs from all of their albums since 1987.

"Our fan club Sayap-Sayap Wings did a social media survey a few weeks before the concert to determine the fan favourite songs that we ought to play."

Awie also said that the concert was specially to introduce Wings and their music to the younger generation of rock fans.

The concert also included a special segment where Awie sang cover versions of famous rock acts around the world.

They included songs by German rock group Scorpions, British rock group Pink Floyd, and American rock groups The Fray and Cinderella.
