BUKIT KAYU HITAM: The Kedah Malaysian Border Security Agency (AKSEM) seized RM10,000 worth of energy drinks smuggled from Thailand at Km1.3 of the North-South Expressway near here yesterday.
A total 155 boxes of the drinks were found stashed inside a lorry carrying vegetables on its way to Kuala Lumpur.
Bukit Kayu Hitam AKSEM deputy commander Kamar Barin said the seizure was made at 10pm based on public tip-off.
According to Kamar, there were no Health Ministry's label on the cans and bottles to prove that the products have been approved by the ministry.
"The lorry was driven by a 36-year-old man from Gurun and the goods were on its way to Kuala Lumpur.
"The energy drinks in various brands were found hidden behind vegetable boxes and some stashed under the driver's seat," he said in a press conference here today.
Kamar said the drinks received high demand among foreign workers from Thailand and Myanmar.
Hr added that initial investigation showed that the man has no previous criminal record.
The seized drinks were handed over to the Health Ministry for further action.
