Four rescued from sea arrive in KK, brought to hospital

KOTA KINABALU: Four people who went missing at sea off Kudat since May 2 arrived here and were whisked to a hospital for a medical checkup.

Family members and friends were among those who greeted them as they gingerly stepped out of the aircraft on their own before being placed on stretchers and wheeled on to waiting ambulances.

They were flown in from Pulau Layang Layang on board a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency Bombardier CL415 aircraft.

Sabah and Labuan Regional Maritime Director Mohd Zubil Mat Dom who accompanied the four said all appeared to be in good health but were sent for medical observation for further checks on their condition.

The four, a Malaysian, a Chinese and two Spaniards, spent the night at a navy outpost in Layang Layang after they were picked up from two Vietnamese fishing boats near Amboyna Cay island in the Spratly Islands at 6pm yesterday.

The four were local Armella Ali, 23, Chinese national Tommy Lam Wai Yin, 45, and the Spaniards David Hernandez Gasulla and Martha Miguel, both 30.
