KUALA LUMPUR: IJM Corp Bhd and Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB) are among the recipients of the latest four packages of mass rapid transit (MRT) contracts for the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line worth a combined RM4.2 billion.
IJM won a contract worth RM1.47 billion to build a 4.6km viaduct guideway and other associated works from Jinjang to the Jalan Ipoh North Portal.
MRCB secured a RM648 million contract to build a 2.6km viaduct guideway and other associated works from Persiaran Apec in Cyberjaya to Putrajaya Sentral.
The biggest contract, a systems work package worth RM1.62 billion, went to the consortium of Hyundai Rotem Co and Posco Engineering Co Ltd from South Korea and Malaysian company Apex Communications Sdn Bhd.
It is for the engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of electric trains and depot equipment.
A consortium of Bombardier Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Global Rail Sdn Bhd won the other systems work package worth RM458.02 million for the engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of the signalling and train control system.
The Bombardier-Global Rail group was the contractor for the signalling and train control system of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) Line.
The latest contracts were awarded following a procurement committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, said MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar.
He said with the award of the packages, development of the SSP Line could now move full steam ahead.
“Earlier, we saw many civil works being awarded. We have now moved to the stage where we are awarding systems work packages. This is very good progress for the SSP Line,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Successful bidders were based on the best evaluated tender, where both technical and commercial aspects were evaluated. As a result, the successful tender might not be the one with the lowest price.
“The successful tenderers for the electric trains, Viaduct V203 and Viaduct V210, had also submitted the lowest prices,” said Shahril.
IJM was the contractor of viaduct Package V5 of the SBK Line for the construction of an elevated guideway.
