Explanations given by Rayani Air to be analysed thoroughly: DCA DG

KUALA LUMPUR: The explanations provided by Rayani Air to the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) will be analysed thoroughly before the fate of the airline can be determined.

DCA director-general Datuk Seri Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said several issues had been brought up with the airline's management last Thursday (May 12).

Speaking to reporters today, Azharuddin said the department had questioned the syariah-compliant airline during the inquiry and the management had complied and answered those queries.

He said: "I cannot divulge the questions that we have asked because it is between the DCA and Rayani Air. The facts have been presented to us and we will analyse it now."

On when a decision would be made on the airline, Azharuddin said he could not give a timeframe and decisions would have to be made based on the existing laws and regulations.

It was previously reported that Rayani Air's air operations certificate (AOC) was suspended on April 11 for three months after the airline temporarily halted operations following a strike by pilots a couple of days earlier.

The syariah-compliant airline, which was launched in December last year, is the first local airline company to have its operations suspended for allegedly breaching the Civil Aviation Regulations 1966.
