(Badminton) Malaysia lose 5-0 to China in the opening day of the Uber Cup

KUNSHAN, CHINA -- MALAYSIA as expected were outclassed by China in the opening day of the Uber Cup as they went down today.

National No 1 women's singles Tee Jing Yi who took to court first at the Kunshan Sports Centre, stood no chance against reigning Olympic champion Li Xuerui, who only needed 32 minutes to wrap up the match 21-13, 21-11.

The biggest disappointment, however, was when women's doubles Vivian Hoo Kah Mun-Woon Khe Wei squandered a seven point lead in the deciding game to lose 21-11, 14-21, 21-18 to world No 3 Tang Yuanting-Yu Yang.

The host nation, then secured the tie through world No 4 Wang Yihan who defeated 16-year-old Goh Jin Wei 21-16, 21-14 in the third match.

Malaysia's second women's doubles Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean, also fought hard but it was not enough to prevent Tian Qing-Zhao Yunlei from chalking up a 21-15, 19-21, 21-11 win.

In the last match of the day at the Kunshan Sports Centre, Soniia Cheah lost 21-9, 21-10 to Sun Yu.

The women's team will have a one day break before playing Denmark on Tuesday in a must win tie.
