Plate numbers for Putrajaya-registered vehicles to start with 'F' next month

KUALA LUMPUR: From next month, newly-registered vehicles in Putrajaya will bear the ‘F’ prefix on its number plates.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi said the Road Transport Department would open the tender for new registration numbers next month.

“Putrajaya will get its own prefix for vehicle registration numbers. (As per normal procedure), the tender is open to any vehicle owner.

“Previously, it was found that the number of registrations for Putrajaya numbers were low as motorists had deemed the number plate prefix as being too long,” he said in response to a question by Datuk Ahmad Fauzi Zahari (BN-Setiawangsa).

At present, Putrajaya-registered vehicles bear the prefix ‘Putrajaya’, followed by the number.

Aziz said that due to this, some motorists in Putrajaya were more inclined to register their vehicles with Selangor plates.

"It is the norm for vehicle owners to be more interested in short and small numbers on their vehicle registration plates. As such, the department has proposed for the new prefix to generate excitement, and it will also be easier to read.”

Meanwhile, he said the next series of registration number for Kuala Lumpur vehicles will start with “V”.
