(Thomas Cup) Team must accept defeat, says Chong Wei

KUNSHAN, CHINA: Lee Chong Wei, believes the national team did all they can to reach the semi-finals of the Thomas Cup in Kunshan, China before losing to Denmark on Friday.

Chong Wei, 34, admitted it was disappointing to lose the tie 3-2 but lamented that there is really nothing that can be done to change the outcome.

"What can I say, I am of course disappointed that we lost 3-2 when we had already taken a 2-0 lead.

"But I think everyone gave their best and fought hard but we were just not good enough to clinch the tie.

"There is really nothing that we can do now to change the result of that tie. We must just accept it," said Chong Wei, who had won the first point for Malaysia when he defeated Viktory Axelsen 23-21, 21-18.

Men's doubles Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, won Malaysia's second point when they saw off Mathias Boe-Mads Conrad Petersen 21-18, 21-18.

It was downhill, however, from then on as Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin lost 21-18, 21-18 to Hans Kristian Vittinghus before men's doubles Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong went down 10-21, 21-8, 21-13 to Denmark's third doubles Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.

Chong Wei Feng, who was under tremendous pressure failed to turn things around for Malaysia as he too succumbed to a 21-15, 21-18 defeat to Emil Holst in the deciding match.

Denmark will go on to face Indonesia in the final on Sunday.
