Police to quiz assemblyman over assault

ALOR SETAR: Kedah police will be questioning a state assemblyman over an assault case, a video clip of which has now gone viral on social media.

Kota Setar police chief, ACP Mohd Rozi Jidin said they had called up the complainant this morning.

He said the complainant claimed that he was assaulted by several people including the assemblyman at the Aman Central shopping mall here on May 15.

“We do not know who the individuals in the video clip are yet and we are investigating the case. We have contacted the assemblyman concerned and he might be giving a statement tomorrow,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

He said the complainant had lodged a police report the same day and did not know the assemblyman until the case became viral on Facebook.

The complainant had claimed that he was dragged out of his car before being assaulted by the men and that his girfried who tried to intervene also suffered injuries and had to seek treatment at a private shopital.

According to him, members of the public then intervened following which the assailants left the scene.

The 33-second video has attracted more than 200,000 viewers on Facebook.

The assemblyman concerned could not be reached for comment. -- BERNAMA
