Wan Khairil's widow is BN candidate for Kuala Kangsar by-election

KUALA KANGSAR: Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid, 55, was today announced as Barisan Nasional's (BN) candidate for the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary by-election.

The official announcement was made by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at a special gathering held at the coalition's command centre here, this evening.

Mastura is the widow of the late Kuala Kangsar member of parliament Datuk Wan Mohammad Khairil Anuar Wan Ahmad.

The mother of four is a lawyer by profession and holds a law degree from the University of Kent, United Kingdom in 1984 and Diploma in Syariah Law from International Islamic University Malaysia in 1989.

Zahid said Mastura was chosen based on five criteria, namely she is a professional, understands Kuala Kangsar's political climate, is supported by the division, always mingle with the grassroots and represents Wanita Umno, which is the party's backbone.

Present at the announcement were Perak BN chairman and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and Umno Youth vice-head Khairul Azwan Harun.
