PN to discuss candidate for KKB by-election on Monday

KOTA BARU: Perikatan Nasional's (PN) top leaders will meet on Monday evening to discuss the coalition's candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the meeting, involving PN Supreme Council members, will be held in Selangor.

"We will select a Selangorian as the candidate, and the person must be a winnable candidate," he told reporters at his Hari Raya open house here today, which was also attended by Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election was triggered by the passing of its incumbent. Lee Kee Hiong on March 21.

Lee, 58, who had been the Kuala Kubu Baharu assemblyman under the Hulu Selangor Parliamentary constituency since 2013, died after battling cancer in the past few years.

In last year's Selangor state election, Lee won a four-cornered fight against candidates from PN, Muda, and Parti Rakyat Malaysia to retain the seat.

Nomination for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election is set for April 27, while voting will be held on May 11.

Previously, Gerakan, which contested the seat for PN in the last election, said it has sent the names of three possible candidates for the by-election.
